#32 - He Sucks at Debates

Wow. We thought this entry would require lots of analysis. But there's no need. Bush sucked. Kerry kicked ass. That whooshing sound you hear is not the remnants of Hurricane Jeanne, but the collective sigh from desperate liberals across the land: we just may get our country back.

Favorite GW quote: "Being president is hard."

Yes. Apparently, so is talking in fluid sentences.

Comments

I am trying really hard not to be blindly partisan this election. I despise having Dubya in the White House, and yet he intrigues me. (Have you ever heard the “How is Dubya in the White House like a turtle on a post ” joke?) I watched the debate with interest.
First of all, a person couldn’t help but notice how much more intelligent and “presidential” Kerry appears than GWB. (Pardon me, I have a hard time calling him “the President”)
I tried to find that thing that Bush has which makes him so appealing to republicans. Many republicans I know are intelligent people, and yet, this is the person they voted to be president. He must be charming, right? I did find his comments surprisingly kind and seemingly sincere when asked about the character of his opponent. I was surprised twice that he seemed to have some actual facts at his mental grasp, though I don’t know how accurate they were. However, I couldn’t get over the smug little grimaces and nods to the mediator each time he finished speaking. I felt justified when he stammered and had no response to Kerry’s statement about N. Korea. How high school-like his comments and composure appeared, how nervous he seemed. Even without agreeing with all of Kerry’s policies or without finding the man personally appealing, wouldn’t Kerry just make a person feel safer, more like there is someone in control of the trip who can actually read a map? Not to mention Dick Cheney – does anyone want to take the chance that this detestable man could end up being president?
It’s worrisome, this phenomenon of voting for president as though voting for prom-queen.

I knew in the first few seconds of this first debate that Kerry had it in the bag. Dubya was such an arrogant asshole that he simply HANDED the debate over. This wasn't even a contest.

I wish the Kerry campaign could use bits of the debate, but they signed an agreement not to, because here's a Bush flip-flop:

Bush on campaign: Kerry's plan for iraq is the same as ours.

Bush in debate: Kerry's plan for Iraq cannot work.

Like Ann, I have wondered what Bush's appeal is to people I otherwise consider intelligent. Is it his 'resoluteness?' His ability to 'stay the course?' His 'hard work?' His optimism ('we're making progress')? Those phrases were repeated so often, my husband and I found ourselves repeating them along with Bush as he chanted them, over and over. We can only hope people's minds aren't so rigid that they continue to believe the spin, even though it is obvious THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES!!!

The scary thing about how fidgity and nervous Bush looked during the elections, how he kept flashing that little grin and throwing the nods every once in a while, is that people like that! People like that he smiles at everything, that he talks about "freedom" and "justice"-- "Look ma, he's just like one of us!" "He's a good ol' country boy who's not afraid to say what he really means." Believe it or not I have run into people who think Bush won the debate hands down. WHAT?!? My first question in response to that is "DO YOU HAVE EYES? EARS? ANY EXTERNAL SENSES AT ALL?!?" Bush had no idea what he was doing up there. Kerry had his facts straight, he finished his sentences, he didnt interrupt, he got to the point instead of using dumbed down rhetoric to avoid it. The other problem (other than people just liking bush because of his "homegrown" image) is that the people who support bush either A: Support him because they have no worries about income and wish to keep their tax cut (and also are arrogant selfish bastards who "only look out for me and mine-- its the american way"[taken from an actual column in the Daily Iowan in which a person said they didnt care if the poor kid down the block cant go to school or if the old lady next door doesnt get her medicare or social security as long as they still get their tax cut], or B: are incredibly ignorant and are blindly following the party that their daddy's daddy chose back in the day-- (oh, but lets keep our kids ignorant and not give schools funding when they're having a hard time already! i.e. the no child left behind act)

I have to see reason 32 is just ridiculous you dont need a president that articulates himself perfectly. Bush is not a great public speaker ok big deal lets move on to the issues.

Bush has been a good commander in chief who made some tough decisions.
Kerry as President or Kerry as an alternative?
Kerry is certainly not Presidential material.
I remember another famous liberal named Clinton holding up a little credit card sized paper with a flag on it and, I quote, "This is a national Health Care Card. Every American will be covered by health benefits under my administration" ( He had 8 years to do it) What happened ? More liberal promises . Check with some actual Canadians to see how their government sponsored health care is working out.

My prediction:
The Liberal and his nasty wife will go back to obscurity.

If Bush is trying to scare us into voting for him because of terrorism ("vote for me or the terrorists will get you"), doesn't that make him a terrorist himself?
Since America was going to punish terrorists and those who harbor terrorists, shouldn't he (and his hole republican party) be put in jail?

I don't understand how we can impeach a president for getting a blow job and not calling it sex, but we don't impeach a president for getting us into an unjust war.

Well, it's done and over. The two year old get's another four year's. Use your's wisely, as they may be all we''ve got, the idiot might mistake the red button for a night light.
