The Baptist Press news service published a rebuttal from Richard D Land, head of the ethics and religious commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, the largest Protestant church in America, with 10 million members.
Though applauding Mr Bush as a man of deep faith, Mr Land said the president was "Commander-in-Chief, not theologian-in-chief", and was "simply mistaken".

Hi! Can you use "fundamentalist Christians" instead of Evangelical? Technically, ALL non-Catholic Christians are "evangelical". (Mirriam-Webster) Including me. And NO one is more Christian Left than me. Who has Muslim AND Jewish friends, but think that Zionists and Extremists need to give it a rest. Who believe in the separation of church and state. Who think that President Bush should be impeached immediately. Actually, there are a ton of us Christian Left folks. Who know that the Christian Right are not technically Christian. Because to be considered Christian you actually have to ACT compassionate, advocate for the marginalized, eschew worldly gain as a main priority, fight for social justice and human rights, show mercy...you know. Like Christ did? I've already written to some major papers who have actually written back and agreed to change their language. Unfortunately, the Fundamentalist and Charasmatic Christians on the Right WANT the press to refer to them as evangelical. Because THEY know that technically all non-Catholic Christians fall in that category and they want their twisted political agenda to seem more popular than it is. I am so sick and tired of people automatically associating violence with Islam. They are not violent people, there are just a few of them that are a bit fanatical. There are more than a few Christians that are also very fanatical, and here in America we refer to them as the KKK. Those few fanatical Muslims don't just hate America and Christians either. They've killed not only Christians but Muslims and Jews as well. They even destoyed a few ancient Buddist statues too. So, with this group of crazy people going around destoying everything they don't agree with, why are we spending so much money on Iraq and not going out and trying to find and stop them?
